Brian Petersen is the Chief Operations Officer at HOM, Inc., responsible for the oversight of the company’s day-to-day business operations and execution of the company’s strategic goals.

Brian began his career at HOM as a Housing Specialist in October 2001 following his recruitment from the real estate and property management industry.  Brian obtained his real estate license in 1999 at the start of his career in housing.  As a Regional Property Manager for a small property management firm, Brian managed multiple properties throughout Maricopa County and gained valuable experience in the implementation and compliance with the Arizona Residential Landlord and Tenant Act.  This experience provided Brian with a foundation that has proven to be beneficial as he transitioned his career into the administration of permanent housing solutions for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

While serving as a Housing Specialist at HOM, Brian gained valuable insight as he worked with participants, landlords, and service provider partners to end homelessness and retain permanent housing for individuals and families.

In 2005, Brian was promoted to the position of Operations Manager at HOM where he was responsible for program staff supervision and housing program administration.  In that same year, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  Brian’s business education proved to be a compliment to his experience as a Housing Specialist, preparing him to be a highly effective supervisor and program administrator.  During this time, Brian also served as a member and later Chairperson of the Professional Development Committee for the Arizona Chapter of NAHRO.

Brian continued his education and completed his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in the spring of 2010.  In that same year, Brian became the Chief Operations Officer (COO) at HOM and continues to serve in that capacity.  During Brian’s tenure as COO, HOM has experienced significant growth in new partnerships and lines of business.  Brian was instrumental in guiding the organization through this period of growth and executing on the company’s vision to expand its impact in ending homelessness in Maricopa County.  Brian developed strong partner relationships and worked to hold the organization true to its core values of customer service, integrity, leadership, and excellence.

Brian has enjoyed opportunities to serve in his community and work with partners in several valuable community initiatives.  In 2011, Brian participated in the community’s first Supportive Housing Institute which resulted in the completion of a Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) development in Desert Leaf Apartments with A New Leaf.  He has also worked with community partners in developing industry standards as part of the Permanent Supportive Housing Work Group.

Brian was honored to work with multiple community partners as part of Project H3 Vets to develop and implement a plan to house the community’s most vulnerable and chronically homeless Veterans.  Following the success of the initiative, Brian acted as a community mentor for the 100,000 Homes Campaign at Rapid Results Boot Camps throughout the country, providing peer coaching and facilitation to several communities in their efforts to end chronic homelessness among Veterans.

Brian is a member of the Arizona chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), and he has received certification from NAHRO for Section 8 Eligibility and Rent Calculation. Brian has also obtained certification for Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections from Nan McKay.

Brian is married and has five children. With a family that size, there is no free time.  But, he is an avid sports fan, enjoys spending time with his family, and coaching baseball.  Brian regularly looks for opportunities to serve his family, friends, and community.
