There’s No Place Like HOM
As Dorothy says, “There’s no place like home.” Why is home such a special place? It provides us with safety, security and shelter from the elements. It is where we rest and recharge. It’s the place where we keep all our stuff. Our clothes are there; maybe a TV, books and other things we use to entertain ourselves. It’s where we eat and nourish ourselves. It’s the platform from which we achieve healthier lives, better educational outcomes and employment opportunities. At the end of the day, though, home is special because of the people there. Whether that is our family, our neighbors or the larger community around us. The people in our lives and our relationships with them enrich and strengthen our home, making it the special place that it is.
The same is true of our HOM. The people that make up our team – our family – are remarkable individuals that come together to make a difference in the world every day. This is no accident. We’ve worked diligently over the years to cultivate the unique combination of attributes and talents that make our team great. A few years ago, we set out to define this greatness and make it a focal point of our company’s recruiting and retention efforts. It is embedded in our culture and plays a significant role in everything that we do as an organization.
We call it the HOM Competency Model. The HOM Competency Model is a collection of the “Four E’s.”
- Emotional Intelligence – Showing empathy for others and understanding your impact on them.
- Excellence – Striving for the highest quality and providing leadership through service and innovation.
- Ethics – Being honest in all you do and treating others with dignity and respect.
- Expertise – Having the vision to adapt to change and using your experience to add value.
The Four E’s help us recognize what it means to be a member of the HOM family. Together, we set expectations and goals based on shared values and beliefs held by all members of the team. The Four E’s are one of the many reasons why “There is no place like HOM.” Learn more about the HOM Competency Model and current employment opportunities on our Employment Page.
